Modern and stylish
A community-led high school in Cardiff with close to 1,800 pupils, Llanishen High School has an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that prioritises the development and well-being of all students. With an on-site autism unit, hearing-impaired resource base and investment in facilities for vocational subjects, the school is a student-centric environment reflective of the local community.
The school has recently refurbished the flooring of its main canteen and dinner hall. Estates Manager Russell McConkey explains, “We wanted a floor that felt modern and stylish, but as this is our main dinner hall used by the majority of our pupils, it also needed to withstand the daily pressure and be easy for us to look after.”
The educated choice
Llanishen High School turned to its flooring contractor, GCH Designs Ltd, for recommendations. The contractor suggested the Isafe 70 range from IVC Commercial. This compact safety heterogeneous vinyl floor is well-suited to education environments, particularly areas where spills and the potential for standing liquid is high. Achieving R12 and RRL 36+ slip restraint, Isafe 70 reduces the chances of slips as pupils navigate the main dinner hall. Its 0.70mm wear layer also delivers very heavy commercial (class 34) use, so it is capable of withstanding intensive daily use. Isafe 70’s permanent HyperGrip top layer ensures excellent slip-restraint and aids ongoing appearance, reducing lasting scuffs, scratches and stains, and making it easy to clean under normal regimes.
Choosing from a range of natural looking wood designs put forward by GCH Designs, Llanishen High School’s Headmaster selected Light Grey Oak 593, a stylish wood plank that ensures a sophisticated flooring look for the main dinner hall. A total of 280m2 of Isafe 70 was installed by GCH Designs and the school is planning the refurbishment of another hall in 2026.
