IVC Brings a Sophisticated Feel at Crown Place
Testament to the thought put into purpose-built student accommodation and providing impressive facilities and a home-from-home feeling for its student residents; Crown Place offers 397 bedrooms over seven floors, as well as a range of social spaces including seven study areas, two cinemas, dining room, gym and lounge with games and servery areas.
Interior design practice, Studio Cwtch, turned to IVC for 5500m2 of apartment living area and bathroom pod flooring. Using a combination of LVT and safety sheet vinyl, Studio Cwtch has kept a clean, warm and stylish interior for these areas with a floor that can withstand wear and meet the need for an easy maintenance finish.
Sophie Delaney, senior interior designer, Studio Cwtch, says, “We wanted to create a homely feel, but with a grown-up edge, the floor needed to look warm and have an authentic, high-quality feel. Performance was also a high priority – a suitable wear layer was required and being easy to clean was very important. IVC’s floors seem to be a popular choice in student accommodation and I believe this is down to the high-quality aesthetics and cleanliness that they offer.”
For apartment living areas, Studio Cwtch turned to IVC’s Moduleo 40 specification, choosing the rustic wood effect of Country Oak. Featuring a 0.40mm wear layer for commercial levels of performance, Moduleo 40 also benefits from Protectonite®, a PUR technology that makes a floor easier to clean and less prone to marks and stains. In the bathroom pods, Isafe 70 safety sheet vinyl flooring provides a slip-resistant surface underfoot. Tested in accordance with TRRL 36+, the floor comes with a Hypergrip surface that improves cleanability without altering slip-resistance. Chosen in the striking Bolivia Black Bamboo wood-strip effect, Isafe 70 is available in a broad range of wood, decorative and architectural effects and in two and four-metre widths.
Both Moduleo 40 Country Oak and Isafe 70 Bolivia Black Bamboo were installed by CS Flooring Solutions, a Pontypridd-based flooring contractor founded in 1963. Crown Place, Cardiff was the first of three developments undertaken in 2018 by Crown Student Living, with similar complexes in Portsmouth and Norwich.
